Your assessor is looking for how you apply your knowledge and how you think critically about the topic area. Reflect on your learning and your own research within this unit and complete all questions. Task 1 You are employed as a Personal Trainer at XYZ gym. You have a client who is having trouble committing to behaviour change and you are unsure how to assist him. 1.1 How can you learn more about behaviour change strategies from within your workplace? Provide at least 3 examples. With in my workpklace if I wanted to learn more about behaviour change strategies I would first talk to my work place mentor. After that or if I wanted more inforamtion I would talk to a manager. Also I would recal information on past training or see if we could interact in a workplace training session. 1.2 You would like to do some general research on behaviour change and motivation before your next meeting with your client. List below two sources that you could use to further your knowledge. You may provide the name of relevant journal articles, books or provide the web link to relevant internet sites/articles. He mentions that he is bored of this equipment and that has affected his attendance. How can you modify his exercise routine to help him maintain motivation? I would ask him firstly what he is wanting to achieve in the gym. I would also address his goals and see if we can set some new ones. Then I would work with him to adjust his program so that it is more diversity with a higher level of difficulty, I would incorperate some exercises that he enjoys and some that will challenge him this will assit in keeping him motivated. Task 2 2.1 Discuss how behaviour change strategies can be used to increase a client’s commitment to their program and their confidence regarding their performance? To increase a client's adhereance and commitment to their exercise they can use behavioral change stratergies. Making sure that they are attending a environment that they enjoy, so that they want to come back. Making sure they have a varity of exercises to keep them from becoming board. Once the client has seen some progression and seeing changes this will also assit them in behaviour change which will keep them more commited to there program. 2.2 How can a fitness professional use motivation and behaviour change techniques in their day- to- day practice with participants at the fitness facility? Fitness professional should motivate them by keeping them on the right track, guiding them on their goals inorder for them to achieve it and be able to reach progress. 2.3 Provide a description of the following motivation and exercise behaviour change strategies and how you could use these to promote behaviour change for clients of a fitness facility. Goal setting Goal setting is a process of setting out ideal future goals, this is a great way to motivate people. Goal setting can be used to assist with behaviour change for clients as it gives them somethihng to work towards. Rewards Rewards are a great way to premote behaviour change, as it gives clients something else to work towards. Rewards can be given in recognition of your clients performance or achievements. Feedback Feedback is a very affective tool that can be used to assist clients in motivating behave change. Receiving positive feedback on you Page | 2

Social support Behaviour change can be encouraged through social support. Social support is generally received from family and friends. This network of people are there to support and encourage you. This will assit in reaching your goals or help with behaviour change and accountablity. Self-monitoring Self-monitoring is when you monitor your own performance and progress. A great way of keeping track of your own progress and training is to use a personal training diary. This is a great way to assist in achieiving your goals 2.4 How can you monitor the success of the behaviour change strategies in your own professional practice? Self monitoring is a great way to see in you are succeeding with your behaviour change stratergies. Having a mentor or someone from leadership who is able to review your progress is a great way to see if you are succeeding. Also having your own goals in place and self monitoring is a great way to check your success. 2.5 How can you adjust your own behaviour change strategies in response to feedback? When you receiving feedback, You can adjust your behaivour change stratergies by taking on board the feedback and adjusting your stratergies, This will assist to further with behaviour change. Task 3 3.1 You have been approached by a member of the gym, Sasha. She has been struggling to commit to a consistent routine at the gym and is not seeing any improvements in her fitness or physique. She can only visit the gym after 7 p.m. when her children are in bed but she finds that by that time of night she has lost motivation to exercise. She also doesn’t find using cardio equipment very enjoyable but she tends to stick to the treadmill and cross trainer as she hasn’t used any other equipment. How can you use the following behaviour change strategies to help Sasha commit to a consistent gym routine? Ensure that you take into account her personal circumstances. Behaviour Change Strategy Description Contracting I would find something that Sasha is intersted in and create a program that will keep her accountable, I would outline clear expectations that we can both agree on.
