Kyla King Adult Development Week 4 Discussions For this discussion, start by going to UC's Career Services website . Choose "Focus Career Assessment Login" Scroll down until you see Register - unless you've done this before you may still be able to create a new user profile and that may be easiest - if it's been a while since you completed it. You'll see that it'll ask you for an "Access Code" and the code is patriots. Create a profile - and then click "Continue" you'll be able to do the self-assessment. It's broken down into several parts - you can do some of them and then log off and log back in later to complete them if you'd like - it took me a total of about an hour to complete all 5 parts. Once you're finished, you can print a summary - which basically summarizes your responses on the various parts. After you complete all parts of the assessment (Career Readiness and Self-Assessment), towards the bottom of the Main Menu screen, you'll see an option to "Review and Print your Portfolio". Choose this option and after creating your profile, choose the option to Save as PDF. Attach this saved document here and then post a response to the following questions here at the discussion board: As we think about adulthood, some things to consider: how, if any, do you think your results will change on this assessment over the next 5 or 10 years? Would your results have been different 5 or 10 years ago? Is this assessment equally useful for adults of all ages? Do most adults think through these kinds of things (personality, values, skills, etc.) as they contemplate their career choices? Finally, thinking about your future career, and the textbook's descriptions of Extrinsic rewards of work and Intrsinc rewards of work, which of both of these rewards is important to you? After taking this assessment, I am sure these results will change over time, as I have taken this test a couple of times now, each giving different results. I was assigned to take this assessment when I first began my college career and have found this assignment enjoyable both times, although it was deemed homework. As we grow, we change, and it is inevitable. The first time I took this test was only a couple of years back, and I found different results in just that short time, so it guaranteed that five to ten years would surely be different. Although the results change, this test is helpful for adults of all ages because the results only differ as we grow. This can be helpful to each stage that an adult would endure, helping guide them and show them where they are at that point in their life. I am unsure if most adults are thinking what I am, but I am an adult who thinks of things such as personality, values, and skills when thinking about my future career choices and goals. I am a person who genuinely cares for others with little to no effort and wants to do what I can to help make a difference. This is why my career choices are either going into counseling or working within an addiction center and helping those who need an excessive change in their life for the better. Finally, when I think about my future career choices and the
textbook descriptions of extrinsic and intrinsic rewards of work, the rewards that are more important to me would be intrinsic awards, as the reason I am looking into working as a counselor or within addiction programs is that I feel I was born an empath. I genuinely want to help others, which makes me feel good and is self-rewarding. If I go the counseling route, I will be helping people understand and treat their traumas and day-to-day issues, which can be life- changing either way so that I will feel the self-reward in that. If I work in an addiction center, I will be helping those trying to start their life over, giving me a sense of self-reward with or without a good salary or benefits. Naturally, extrinsic rewards, such as a good salary, are also beneficial and would be preferable, and benefits are desired by most regardless of what career.
