Marina Chabot PSY 315 Milestone One :   Submit Case Study and Theoretical Orientation Patient description: (Fictional) Amber, Female, 28 – past diagnosed with depression, generalized anxiety disorder, PTSD and borderline personality disorder. Amber has had trouble with internal dialogue for as long as she can remember. From a young age she has been conditioned to believe that she isn’t ‘good enough’ and ‘unlovable’. Due to mother who prioritized her own life over her daughters and her father passing away at 16, Amber was left to survive on her own. She constantly chose partners that mirrored how her parents treated her, leaving her in a constant state of fight or flight mode. Amber is extremely hypervigilant of others' behavior and interprets the slightest change in mood as a threat and believes everyone will end up leaving her. She does not have healthy coping skills and in the past has reverted to doing drugs or impulsivity to cope with her emotions. She doesn’t trust people and believes everyone is lying to her which makes it hard for her to create meaningful relationships. She is aware of her internal struggles but doesn’t have the tools to deal with them and would like to start feeling/seeing results as soon as possible. For this client, I would recommend Cognitive Behavior Therapy. CBT assists you in recognizing false or negative thought patterns so you may perceive difficult situations more clearly and react to them more skillfully. In the treatment of mental health conditions like depression and post- traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), CBT can be a highly useful technique. CBT is a helpful method for dealing with emotional problems. For instance, it could assist   in: Acquiring   coping mechanisms for challenging circumstances in life, Dealing   with loss or grief,
overcome   emotional trauma resulting from violence or abuse, and learn how to control your emotions. All of which Amber struggles with.
