Message Given the situation, identify the message you think is being conveyed. Interpretation Explain why you think this is the message being communicated from the nonverbal communication cues you identified. What other factors in the situation lead you to believe that this is the message being communicated? Could the nonverbal communication mean something else? Why or why not? Bouncing her leg The female is showing signs of nervousness or anxiety I think the female is leg bouncing because she is nervous and anxiety about being caught placing contraband in between the Plexiglas and the desk. Another factor that led me to think the leg bouncing is nervousness is the fact she brought contraband into a prison, and knowing they are being recorded during their visit. I don’t believe the leg bouncing is trying to communicate anything else in this situation because the only other thing leg bouncing could mean is boredom, and I don’t believe the female is bored. Tapping on the glass The male and female are trying to communicate in code by tapping on the glass Because the male and female are trying to communicate without the guards knowing what they are saying, I believe they are tapping on the glass as a form of code. In this scenario I do not believe the tapping on the glass could mean anything else. Head nodding It is possible that the male is nodding to let the female know when to place the contraband between the plexiglass and desk I believe the husband is nodding to let the female know when it is a good time to place the contraband in between the plexiglass and the desk. He is probably watching the guards and nodding at the female to let her know the guards are not watching them at the moment. It is also possible that he is nodding at her while she is talking to acknowledge what she is saying. Head nodding is a normal response for acknowledgment.
