DQ 5.1 # 2 Hi, Thank you for posing this question. Briere and Scott (2015) identified that a growing number of clinicians are integrating mindfulness techniques into their cognitive-behavioural and psychodynamic approaches. Pesi (2020) suggests that CBT techniques can provide counsellors with strategies to create routines and successfully implement mindfulness into their everyday lives. Such methods include educating the client about mindfulness and its relevance to concerns or goals, identifying ways to identify when the client can use mindfulness (time of day or recognizing physical cues), identifying barriers or challenges around the use of mindfulness and teaching the client specific mindfulness activities that align with the client's preferences or lifestyle (Pesi, 2020). Further, a counsellor should offer ongoing support and encouragement to clients as they begin to incorporate mindfulness into their daily lives and check in regularly with the client about their experiences, concerns and progress (Ellett et al., 2022). I found it challenging to include mindfulness in my own self-care routine. Adding another step to my already full schedule was overwhelming. However, I did manage to establish a time each day to set aside for mindfulness and made small efforts toward this to make it achievable. I found that gaining knowledge about mindfulness and its numerous benefits assisted me in implementing this practice into my daily routine.
