Case Conceptualization Step 1: Problem Identification - The client is seeking therapy to help address new feelings of anxiety, problems in marriage, feelings of guilt, Step 2: Thematic groupings - The client is suffering from generalized anxiety Step 3: Theoretical Inferences - I would utilize Cognitive Behavior Therapy with this client. I would first discuss the incident and any unresolved feelings from the childhood incident with his sister. - The client seems to catastrophize situations with his children, and any situations that may potentially be unsafe are triggers for him-leading to strained relationships with his wife and his children. The client feels as if things will ALWAYS go wrong and that he KNOWS that a similar situation may happen. Step 4: Narrow Inferences - The client has experienced long-term feelings of guilt and shame regarding the situation with his sister. The client has felt as if it has impacted his ability to trust his judgment as a parent. This incident has passed his feelings of anxiety and worry onto his children as well. . The client could benefit from ABC reframing, as well as helping him to recognize certain situations or patterns that could trigger this feeling of guilt and shame- providing him with tools and coping mechanisms to help him and his children with these feelings of anxiety stemming from the shame.
