Complete the template, with the required details of the lesson. Include at least one activity each for visual literacy and digital literacy and at least one activity that integrates the two literacies through critical literacy. Also include at least one differentiation strategy. You may access the document, Questions to Promote Critical Literacy, and other resources on the Learning Objects page in Module 1. Step 4. Conclude your paper with the Final Reference page, using APA formatting. Step 5. Follow the directions to submit your final document. Integrated Thematic Unit Theme: Lesson Title: Summary of key learning interactions and instruction: Desired Results Learning Objectives for Lesson Make a KWL chart of prior knowledge about rabbits. Discuss breeds, diet, care, and behavior of rabbits. Taste various kinds of rabbit food. (Parsley, lettuce, carrots, etc.) Record and graph taste test results on graph displayed on the Smartboard. Play rabbit review game on Blooket. Evidence Evaluative Criteria (List 2-3) Students will participate in a Blooket game. Assessment Evidence: Blooket will provide detailed evidence of which concepts were mastered and which need more review. Other Evidence: Student’s daily journal will be evaluated. Activity #1 New Literacies Utilized Materials/Resources (for each interaction/activity) Description: KWL chart Steps: Using Nearpod, present a KWL chart. Instruct the students to complete what they know about rabbits and what they want to know about rabbits. Explain we will complete the L portion after the lesson. Specify which new literacies are utilized Digital: The teacher will display the Nearpod for the students to view, and each child will be logged in on their Chromebooks. Visual: Students will prepare and read the KWL chart. Chromebooks Nearpod lesson KWL chart Smartboard Large paper and markers to make one class KWL chart. Activity #2 New Literacies Utilized Materials/Resources (for each interaction/activity) Description: Rabbit diet taste test. Steps: Begin the lesson by showing the student the video: Facts about Rabbits. Provide each student with a small sample of: a carrot, radish, parsley and lettuce. After trying each vegetable, the student will document their opinion on 4 classroom charts. The chart will say: “The radish tasted: "great, ”” ok”, or “not so good.” At the conclusion, the results will be tallied and discussed. Digital literacy : Youtube video as an introduction. Visual literacy: The students will use tools to evaluate and determine the preferences on rabbit food. YouTube video Carrots Radishes Parsley Lettuce Opinion Chart Markers Activity #3 New Literacies Utilized Materials/Resources (for each interaction/activity) Description:Plant the Garden Steps: Ask students, "What do we need to grow a garden?" "What will we grow in our garden?" Compile a roster of produce suitable for planting in a garden. Have the students create a list of Items necessary to plant a garden. Visual: Students will analyze visual material. Digital: Students will read the story Caring for Your Rabbit on Epic. Milk jugs Potting soil Various seeds Tongue depressors Tape Spoons Small watering can Chromebook or class cell phone for taking pictures of the project.
Give each student a container, like the bottom part of a water or milk jug. Let the students pick two kinds of seeds they want to plant in their own gardens. Ask the students to draw a picture of each seed on an index card using colored pencils. Then, stick a tongue depressor to the back of the card using duct or masking tape. Have students take pictures to document in their digital journal. Differentiation Strategies New Literacies Utilized Materials/Resources (for each interaction/activity) Description: -Provide journal prompts and vocabulary word list for students. -Offer an audio version of the story for students at a lower reading level. -Students can work in pairs. -Allow students to record themselves on Flip rather than writing the responses. -Students needing enrichment can measure and record the length of their plants. Using the book and video of The Tale of Peter Rabbit, have the students compare in a Venn diagram. Using a virtual reality app allows students to explore a virtual garden tour. Digital: Students will use their Chromebooks to access Flip and Epic. Visual: Students will use the Smartboard to provide directions and journal prompts. Caring for your Rabbit-Epic Chromebooks.
