Attempt 1 RH Randi Hermann Jan 8, 2024, 8:51 PM Good evening and Happy New Year! Alternate assessments can significantly aid teachers in meeting the accommodations for students with special needs. These assessments are periodically given to all students to measure achievement. It's a way for teachers to determine how well and how much students are learning. For students with IEPs, alternative assessments are tailored for them in a way where they may not perform well on standard tests, even with accommodations. These assessments are not based on the same grade-level academic standards as general assessments that offer a more suitable way to assess these student's abilities and progress. They are designed for students whose disabilities significantly impact their academic achievements, allowing for assessments that match their learning levels and needs. Most kids with IEPs that do take the general assessment, are accommodated by having extra time on the test or having the questions read out loud ( Understood, n.a.). The content in alternative
assessments aligns with grade-level material but features less challenging questions. Decisions on whether to use these assessments are made by the IEP team and are reviewed annually to ensure they continue to meet the student's needs (Parent Center Hub, 2010).
