Report
Unit 10 Discussion The learning objectives for the course MN662 PMHNP Psychotherapy for Individuals, Groups, and Families Clinical were adequately met. By the end of the course, I was able to employ therapeutic communication in clinical practice in providing care for patients with mental issues. I also carried out mental status examinations for individuals, groups, and families across the lifespan (American Psychological Association, 2019). Besides, the objective for suicidal documentation and safety planning was adequately met because I was able to assess patients with suicidal ideations and plan for their safety practices to prevent such thoughts. Additionally, throughout the course, I met the objective of developmental theories for assessment use. I identified developmental theories that helped me assess patients across their lifespans. From this unit, I realized various mental problems have a high prevalence in particular populations. In addition, I achieved the objective of teaching the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) technique in coping with stress issues to individuals, groups, and families across their lifespan. According to Johnson and Vanderhoef (2016), MBSR is an adaptation program for teens and adults by Jon Kabat-Zinn to teach patients mindfulness-based learning in educational, clinical, and community settings to handle stress. Furthermore, I achieved the objective of employing Cognitive- behavioral therapy (CBT) in a clinical setting to improve patient outcomes. CBT is a psychotherapeutic approach that helps patients identify and change maladaptive thought patterns that have adverse impacts on their behaviour (Stahl, 2013). Moreover, I have achieved the objective of providing trauma-informed care and mixed therapy modalities in clinical practice to patients across the lifespan. Trauma is among the primary causes of various mental issues that need appropriate care to prevent the development of psychological disorders, such as PTSD. Also, I achieved the objective of
assessing clients for domestic violence and abuse throughout their lifespan. I was able to evaluate children, teenagers, women, and men for domestic violence. Finally, I met the objective of employing therapeutic approaches across the lifespan in clinical practice because I was able to provide therapy to patients with dissimilar mental health complications, irrespective of their age.
