Discussion 1 Hello everyone, My name is Nikie and I am pursuing a bachelor's degree in Human Services. I'm from Chattanooga, TN, happily married, and I am a proud army mom to my only son. I am also raising my 14-year-old niece and 12-year-old nephew. After reading the amicus brief, I feel it reflects the balance between psychology and law by showing how forensic psychologists work within the legal system and can also remain separate from the legal system simultaneously. With this case it was reviewed and conducted by a licensed Psychologist, William M. Barter. Dr. William M. Barter examined the case by asking questions such as “what, if any, would be the impact (long or short term) to Arnes to remove him from his current placement with the Jellison family, and how could any impact be minimized or removed in making the move to the relatives’ home” (Barter, W.M., 2011). This question does not speak of legal matters in the case but towards the psychological elements of the case. This shows he is working within the legal system but also staying separate from the legal system. Dr. William M. Barter works with Supervisor Mussie on this case. Supervisor Mussie does not have the psychological knowledge to evaluate how a home change could affect Arnes, so she works with Dr. Barter to discuss possible outcomes from a home change.
