PSY 603- Session 5 Goal Attainment Scaling Worksheet 1 PSY 603: Assessment of Individuals, Couples, and Families Goal Attainment Scaling Worksheet Directions: Now that you have learned about Goal Attainment Scaling, try your hand at practicing this for a hypothetical client couple. Imagine that you are seeing a couple, John and Nancy, for therapy. They report that the quality of their relationship is suffering because they do not spend a lot of time together doing things they mutually enjoy. The couple has a 6-month-old child, and they cite their new roles as parents as one factor contributing to the limited time they now spend together as a couple. For example, they often “trade off” taking care of their young daughter and find they are too tired to go out together. Instead, they often just end up watching TV together. However, even during these times, John and Nancy often “multitask” (e.g., answer e- mails/texts on their phone, plan out chores, and create other to-do lists) and do not meaningfully interact with each other. They then usually just end up falling asleep. The couple has been married for 7 years, and it also appears that over time they have developed somewhat different interests and different groups of friends, which is further contributing to a lack of quality time together. You collaboratively decide with John and Nancy that one goal for therapy is to increase the amount of quality time they spend together as a couple. Below is a blank goal attainment scale. Come up with therapy outcomes that would qualify for therapy outcome ratings of 2, 1, 0, +1, and +2, and provide these in the spaces provided. It is probably easiest to start with defining a score of “0” for what you think the most realistic or likely outcome is for therapy and then defining outcomes that would be considered better and worse than this. Upload this completed form, and have a copy available for discussion at the next live session.
