1. Nathan was having a really hard time during his freshman year of college and his family thought this behavior was really uncharacteristic during holiday break. He was defensive and tense about his time at school, but after joining a club and meeting some new friends the following semester, he began to feel like himself again. Given the information provided, would you say that Nathan possesses the trait of neuroticism? Why or why not? I would say yes this shows neuroticism. The reason I think this is because some traits that help us define neuroticism are insecurity and worried. Nathan seems to be insecure before he meets his new friend group, which is why I would consider him to possess neurotic traits. 2. True or false: During the latency period, children are consciously attracted to the opposite sex. True 3. How are reciprocal determinism and genetic/biological determinism different? Genetic/biological determinism states that human behavior is solely determined by our genetics, whereas reciprocal determinism states that our behavior, personality, and the environment all influence one another. 4. Why is self-efficacy important? Having a strong sense of self-efficacy can help one achieve their goals more effectively and efficiently and improve mental health. 5. In Erikson’s Psychosocial Development stages, what social crisis helps individuals develop their ideas around independence, freedom, and will? Initiative vs. Guilt, ages 3-6 years old is when independence is the key event. Right before this, however, with autonomy vs mistrust, ages 18 months-3 years, a child develops a sense of free will.
