Ted Talk: 9 Myths about Psychology Debunked (2015) By Ben Ambridge Link: Ted Talk Ambridge’s main points in his presentation are the myths he debunked for example the myth Ambridge says, “The myth is that psychology is just a collection of interesting theories, all of which say something useful and all of which have something to offer.” which then he proceeds to tell that it wasn’t true and like the other myths as well. Although he did say that some had a grain of truth that the myth stems from like the myth about the right and left brain myth. I actually found the whole video interesting because I was into what he was saying and learn about the myths that he debunks. When I finished the video I found myself thinking it was short like a 5-minute video because I wanted to know more about the myths in psychology and the truth. The most interesting myth he talked about was the one about detecting lies with body language because people claimed to be able to detect the lies and I know that in a particular field in the U.S they learn body language with other factors like speech patterns. The thing I would most remember is the myth about there being different learning styles because I did believe in that since I thought that I learned better in an auditory format. The type of evidence he gave was graphs like at the beginning of the presentation and he refers to studies/research from institutes. Ben Ambridge is a senior lecturer in psychology and researches children’s language development. Ambridge's work focuses more on cognitive psychology since he researches children's language and development. The question I would ask Ambridge is if he can continue on the myths and debunks which I would just listen to.
