COGNITIVE-BEHAVIORAL PERSPECTIVES •Cultural messages support conventional ideas about gender-based expectations and physical attractiveness. CULTURE SOCIALIZATION • Peer appearance teasing is a frequent occurrence in childhood and adolescence that can predispose a person to having a negative body image. INTERPERSONAL EXPERIENCES • A person's physical attractiveness and social acceptability have an impact on how they are viewed and treated by others. PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND PHYSICAL CHANGES Gender-role attitudes and values may make people more likely to hold unhelpful beliefs about their appearance. Word •Body image investment and evaluation are two fundamental aspects of attitude, where investment refers to the CB importance people place on their appearance and evaluation refers to their positive-to-negative beliefs and assessments of it. PERSONALITY FACTORS Precipitating events like body exposure, public scrutiny, and changes in appearance can cause information to be processed according to a schema. ACTIVATING EVENTS AND COGNITIVE PROCESSING ADJUSTIVE AND SELF- REGULATORY PROCESSES Experiences that shape a person's body image develop as they grow cognitively, socially, emotionally, and physically. INTRODUCTION BODY IMAGE ATTITUDES • The Body Image Coping Strategies Inventory (BICSI) identifies three cognitive behavioral (CB) coping strategies for addressing perceived threats or challenges to one's body image: experiential avoidance, appearance-fixing, and constructive rational acceptance. The CB framework has served to guide the hypotheses of numerous investigations of body image and has been a catalyst for the development of useful tools. A CB framework can be applied to understand the development and experience of a positive relationship between individuals and their body. CB viewpoints have improved our understanding of eating disorders, body dysmorphic disorder, and human reactions to conditions that affect. CONCLUSION • The social learning and conditioning processes, as well as cognitive mediation of behaviors and emotions, are highlighted by the cognitive-behavioral viewpoint.
