1 Study Notes for Module 2 A. Glossary of key terms and concepts In the table below, list at least 10 key words or concepts along with a concise and accurate definition. Try not to “cut and paste” definitions. 1. Perception : the way an individual takes in cues from the environment and integrates it with sensory information. 2. Affordances : Affordances are what the environment offers to the individual 3. Reaction time : The time one takes to initiate a response to a stimulus 4. Anticipation : Advance information about what and when something will occur 5. Pre-cues : the detection of clues from the environment. 6. Hicks’ Law : The more the choices one has to make, the longer will be their reaction time 7. Fore-period : Interval between the presentation of a warning signal and the stimulus 8. Psychological Refractory Period : The reaction time between the 1 st stimulus (fake) and 2 nd stimulus (actual move). 9. Stimulus-Response Compatibility : The extent to which a stimulus and its response are naturally related. 10. Simon Effect : When there is low Stimulus-response compatibility, additional time will be required to prepare/initiate a response.
2 B. Key concepts Describe at least one key concept discussed in the module. Use a chart, table, figure, or skeleton outline that helps to explain or summarize and organize a large amount of information from the chapter readings and lecture. You are being marked on content and usefulness of the work as a study aid and not the quality of the presentation. ECOLOGICAL MODEL However, no two people will perceive any affordance as same. It will always be dependent on an individual’s capability to perform an action with respect to the affordance PERCEPTION ACTION This Ecological model also suggests that there is no requirement to refer to stored memory as the relationship between action and perception is circular AFFORDANCES : What the environment offers to an individual. It is usually a perception of the environment in terms of the actions an individual can perform. This approach suggests that the environment and task are perceived directly in terms of affordances.
