Emily Hicks PSY 240 Instructor Banks Assignment – Celebration of Life WC-314 My upbringing and the tradition I was born into are what inspire my values. I was raised to agree with the inherent dignity and worth of each man or woman and that each human has an essential right to be reputable and handled irrespective of race, gender, class, or other indicators of difference. I am dedicated to upholding those values in the face of injustice and inequality. I tend to stay in alignment with my values. The experience that had the most significant and lasting impact on me was my transition to Tampa, FL. I have been coming to Tampa for years, and I have always wanted to move down. When I graduated high school, I did two years of college back home in PCB and then transferred to Arizona College of Nursing. I was ready for the move, but I was not ready to handle all responsibilities on my own. I was used to my mother providing for me if I was unable to do so. Although I struggled for the first three months, I was able to pay my bills and prepare supper every night. My boyfriend and I started exploring and socializing more after we got somewhat comfortable. I felt like I wasn't myself and questioned the move every day. Although this was a mental transition and an opportunity to embrace a new lifestyle and habits. During this time, I needed to be more open to new ideas and introduce some significant changes. This experience has taught me to humble myself and to be patient with time. I've decided to use writing as my creative outlet to express my thoughts on my values and experiences. I may think back on my old experiences and investigate new concepts through this
approach. Writing helps me think deeply and holistically about an event or situation and enables me to explore my ideas and emotions.
