Module 7 Assignment The Genetics Approach (Part 2 of 2) Approximate Completion Time: 60 minutes Value: 3% Assignment Instructions 1. Please review the module lecture materials and corresponding textbook chapter(s). 2. Please read the information in the syllabus about the assignments. It describes how to complete and submit your assignment and how it will be graded. 3. When you are ready, please answer the questions below in the space provided. 4. Section 7.3: Cattell’s Approach to Personality Traits Which traits do you find most and least interesting from topics A through D? Explain why. Common and unique traits, as well as ability, temperament, and dynamic traits, are the topics that I find most fascinating. Understanding the individual differences that make each person special is made possible by unique traits, which provide insights into these differences. Dynamic traits demonstrate how people can develop through time and represent the fluidity and adaptability of personality. On the other hand, I think surface and source qualities, as well as constitutional and environmental-mold traits, are less fascinating. Genetics play a significant role in determining constitutional features, which might restrict the possibility of change and personal growth. Although visible, surface qualities may not give a full picture of a person's Sections 7.4 and 7.5: Source Traits and Dynamic Traits Look over the 16 personality factors in Table 8.2. Overall, do you score low or high? Explain. I think I do well on the most of the factors, but not so well on a couple. Overall, I believe I received a high score. This is due to the fact that I have a wide range of features and display a diversified pattern of behaviour in a variety of contexts. However, the specific elements for which I received low scores suggest areas in which I might not have strong preferences or proclivities. These lower scores don't necessarily mean that the overall evaluation of my personality is any less accurate; after all, individual differences are to be expected, and a well- balanced mix of high and low scores adds to the richness and individuality of a person's personality profile. Section 7.7: Stages of Personality Development What do you think about Cattell’s stages of personality development? Explain. I believe that Cattell's stages of personality development provide a useful framework for comprehending the process of personality development over the course of a lifetime. The steps described by Cattell, which include crystallisation, specification, and consolidation, offer a methodical way to comprehend how personality traits develop and solidify over time. Cattell's stages emphasise the dynamic aspect of personality development by highlighting the interaction of genetic and environmental influences. However, it is crucial to understand that while Cattell's stages offer a valuable framework, they might not fully reflect the complexity of a person's personality development. Personality is a complex and varied construct. Section 7.14: The Dimensions of Personality (Eysenck) From topics A through H, choose three that interest you most. Explain why. I'm primarily interested in three topics: The role of intelligence: I find the correlation between personality and intelligence to be fascinating. Numerous facets of human behaviour and performance can be clarified by understanding how cognitive ability affect personality traits and vice versa. I can delve into the intricate interplay between mental processes and personality attributes by investigating this topic. Extroversion: I find extroversion fascinating because it has to do with people's propensities for assertiveness, good emotion, and social engagement. I can better understand how personality Section 7.15: McRae and Costa: The Five-factor Model (‘Big Five’ – OCEAN) From topics A through J, choose three that interest you most. Explain why. I'm primarily interested in three topics: Measuring the Five Factors: I find the numerous assessment methods that are employed to evaluate the Big Five personality traits to be fascinating. Investigating the validity and reliability of assessment instruments requires an understanding of how these attributes are operationalized and measured. Gender Differences: Exploring the contrasts between men and women's personalities is an interesting subject. Examining if and how the Big Five qualities differ between men and women can reveal the possible effects of biological, socioeconomic, and cultural influences. Section 7.16 and 7.17: HEXACO and Dark Triad of Personality What do you think about the difference between OCEAN and HEXACO? What do you think about The Dark Triad? Do you think there should be a single expanded model? Explain. The conception and quantity of the OCEAN (Big Five) and HEXACO models, in my opinion, represent their main differences. Both models attempt to capture the broad aspects of personality, but HEXACO adds a feature called Honesty-Humility that the Big Five do not explicitly include. It provides a distinctive viewpoint on the three negative personality qualities that make up the Dark Triad: Machiavellianism, Narcissism, and Psychopathy. Manipulative behaviour, a lack of empathy, and a disrespect for social norms are qualities of the Dark Triad. It might be advantageous to combine elements of the Big Five and HEXACO models with the Please be succinct and stay within TWO pages for the completed assignment.
