2 Combatants and Antagonism Assignment Now, through the progression of learning different models of integration between our field and our faith, we have seen some that portray a more harmonious point of view while others, a more negative one. In the “enemies” model of integration, we can see an assertion that a choice must be made between the fields of psychology (science) and Christianity (religion), with no possibility of them both existing within the same plane. This offers up a combative mindset for individuals that leads them to believe that one area of belief is correct and the other is the enemy. The term combatant comes from the old French term combatre , which meant ‘to fight’ in the early 1800s. To me, that is the best way to understand this model as if these topics of thought were at war with one another. Although it is not how we should fully integrate these ideas in my opinion Entwistle discusses in chapter 9, “those with whom we disagree often have things to teach us… [we must] ask ourselves what is to be learned and appreciated” (Entwistle, 2021). This same thought can be applied in this model of how Christian combatants and secular combatants can learn/appreciate from each other. Three ideas
