HSE 353 Milestone One Guidelines and Rubric Presentation Introduction and Substance Use Disorder Overview You are developing a slide presentation meant to educate a client treatment group, as well as their family and friends, about a specific substance of abuse. For Milestone One, you will select a substance use disorder and investigate the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of the substance. Prompt The content of your presentation should address each of the following critical elements: I. Introduction: Explain the purpose of your presentation. What big-picture questions are you trying to answer for your audience? What overall claims are you trying to make? What topics will you be including in the presentation? II. Clarify the Substance Use Disorder A. Identify the nature of your treatment group’s substance of abuse, including its classification and the DSM-5 criteria that must be met for a diagnosis of the selected substance use disorder. Find the list of substance use disorders at the DSM-5 website: Substance-Related and Addictive Disorders . B. Explain the use, tolerance, psychological effects, and withdrawal effects that your clients are likely experiencing in relation to their substance use disorder, using specific evidence. C. Use the DSM-5 website and the relevant textbook chapters (Chapters 10 –16) as resources. You may also use academic journals. Be sure to reference all sources in APA format in the speaker notes. Translate scientific terminology for a nonscientific audience. What to Submit Your presentation should be a polished artifact containing slides and speaker notes supportive of a 10- to 15- minute talk. Any citations should be in APA format. The speaker notes should be written as though you were making a live presentation. This presentation is a narrative, not an outline; write the notes as if you were speaking to your audience and do not create lists.
