Developmental Domains and Effective Practice Name: Alexandria Fletcher Class: ECED 120 Date: 08-31-23 Answer the following questions, using the Developmental Domains and Effective Practice reading as a guide. On the left side of the page, you will see a navigation bar called “Outline.” This will help you navigate through the website and answer the questions. 1.) In your own words, define/describe the following developmental domains. Approaches to Learning: Refers to the skills and behaviors that children use to engage in learning. It incorporates emotional, behavioral, and cognitive self-regulation as well as initiative, curiosity, and creativity. Social and Emotional: social refers to a child’s ability to create and sustain meaningful relationships with adults and other children. Emotional refers to child’s ability to express, recognize, and manage his or her emotions, as well as respond appropriately to others’ emotions. Language and Literacy: Language development refers to children’s emerging abilities to understand and use language. Literacy refers to the knowledge and skills that lay the foundation for reading and writing. Cognition: Includes reasoning, memory, problem-solving, and thinking skills. Young children use these abilities to make sense of and organize their world. Perceptual, motor, and Physical: Perception refers to how children use their senses to gather and understand information and respond to the world around them. Gross motor skills refer to moving the whole body and using larger muscles, such as those in the arms and legs. Fine motor skills refer to use of the small muscles found in individual body parts, especially those in the hands and feet. Health, safety, and nutrition Children’s physical well-being
depends on several factors, including their knowledge and use of safe, healthy behaviors and routines. 2.) On the navigation bar, click on “Approaches to Learning” and the sub- domain, “Emotional and Behavioral Self-Regulation.” Click on “see” and watch the first video. Describe what you observed in the video. (NOTE: All of the sub-domains have videos such as these.) Setting: Classroom Where is the child? Child is setting in high. Where is the teacher? Teacher setting in front of her. How does the teacher respond to the infant's crying? She talk to her calmly explaining what they are doing. What does she offer and what does she say to the child? She gives her a wash cloth to wipe her face and a tooth brush to brush her teeth. She Is her offer accepted by the infant? Yes but she is interested in the wash cloth more. What happens next? The teacher tries to take the wash cloth and she refuses and drops the tooth brush. How does the infant respond when offered another item? She is more interested in the wash cloth. How does the teacher express what she thinks the child is feeling? She talks to her calmly so she stops crying. 3.) Now, use the process above to locate and watch TWO (2) additional videos and answer the questions below. The videos must be from DIFFERENT domains. VIDEO #1 Domain: Social and Emotional Development Sub-Domain: Relationships with Other Children The teacher is setting with a younger child and a little bit older child with some blocks. The younger child is setting with a small block chewing on it. The teacher offers the older child a bigger block and gets the older child to acknowledge the smaller child by saying do you want a small block like her.
