1. According to the scenario, I would recommend some type of program that would keep the juvenile out of trouble . My reason for this assumption is because of the juvenile’s knack for staying out of trouble until things get intense at home. I would like the juvenile to report twice a day and be placed in a community outreach program after school to surround around other juveniles like herself that are being rehabilitated. I would also speak with school staff to make sure that I am informed of her progress during school as well as speak with parents or legal guardians. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a problem-focused, therapeutic approach that attempts to help people identify and change the dysfunctional beliefs, thoughts, and patterns that contribute to their problem behaviors. CBT programs are delivered in various settings, including juvenile detention facilities. REVISED I would suggest a program to keep Ranee out of trouble. This recommendation is based on the juvenile's ability to keep out of trouble until things get heated at home. I would like the juvenile to report daily and be placed in an after-school community outreach program with other rehabilitating juveniles. I would also speak with school personnel to ensure that I am kept up to date on her progress at school, as well as with her parents or legal guardians. I would determine if her home environment was stable and supportive of rehabilitation. If it is not, she may need temporary placement into a stable environment during her rehabilitation. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a problem-focused, therapeutic method that aims to assist people in discovering and altering the dysfunctional beliefs, attitudes, and routines that contribute to their behavioral issues. CBT is used in a variety of contexts, including juvenile detention facilities (1). I think Ranee could benefit from this program as an outpatient. A CBT variation targeted exclusively at children and adolescents with anger issues is beneficial for lowering aggressiveness and anger expression as well as enhancing self-control, problem- solving, and social competence. Question 2: In this course, we've discussed many contributing factors that could lead to juvenile delinquency (home life, family, gangs, drugs, mental health, educational challenges, etc.). What do you feel are three of the most common causations of juvenile delinquency? One key factor is home life. If the parents or guardians are too strict the child will rebel as well if the family was not strict at all. Home life requires balance in order to have a well- behaved child. Another challenge is drugs because they will see their friends doing it and they would not want to lose their friends and might submit to pure pressure. Lastly is mental health,
I believe that everyone has some type of mental health issue, but children or juveniles have a hard time dealing with them. There are a lot of key factors that come with mental health such as educational or social challenges, family issues such as a death in the family or siblings getting more attention. REVISED Juvenile delinquency is a complicated issue with numerous origins and repercussions. Peer pressure, dysfunctional households, and poor school attendance are some of the most prominent causes of juvenile misbehavior. Peer pressure can lead to deviant behavior, particularly if the peers are involved in criminal activity or substance misuse. Poor socialization, emotional issues, and low self-esteem can result from dysfunctional households that lack parental supervision, direction, support, or discipline. Poor school attendance or inability to attend school regularly can have an impact on children's academic achievement, social skills, and future chances. It can also make individuals vulnerable to unwanted influences and temptation (2). Home life is an important component. If the parents or guardians are overly strict, the teenager will rebel even if the household is not overly tough. To have a disciplined child, home life must be balanced. Another difficulty is drugs and peer pressure. Teens observing their friends using drugs will be reluctant to lose their buddies, so they may succumb to emotional pressure. Finally, I feel that everyone suffers from some form of mental health condition, but children and adolescents have a difficult time coping with them. There are numerous important elements associated with mental health, such as educational or social obstacles, familial issues such as a death in the family, or siblings receiving more attention. Question 3: What were some of the differences that you were surprised to learn about the juvenile justice system (in comparison to the adult criminal justice system)? To be honest, I was not surprised at all by the comparisons between juveniles and adults. In certain cases, I do believe that the justice system is too lenient on juveniles that commit murder or major crimes that would get an adult life sentence or the death penalty. But some juveniles should not be tried as an adult because even though they know their actions are wrong, their background should be researched to understand the juvenile a little better. The adult court doesn’t take into account the maturity of the child. The physical and psychological development of children makes them prone to making certain decisions. Teens tend to be impulsive risk-takers because of this issue. When children are younger than 15, then there may not be an understanding of the consequences of their criminal conduct. Some kids might not even realize that they have broken the law. The advantages and disadvantages of juveniles being tried as an adult are seeing an evolution in recent years. Teens and youth are being given more chances to get out from behind bars later in life to create something for themselves. The system is not
