Research Paper Ryan Mays Grand Canyon University PSY 550: Research Methods Michelle March October 11, 2023
Video games and rap music are major influences for teenagers. Many of the behavior of teens can be traced back to the music they listen to and even the video games they play. This research topic means a lot to me because I grew up during a time when video games were a part of everyday life for me during certain phases of my life and rap music played a major role in the development of my personality at times in my life. Over the years rap music has grown increasingly violent in context and cities have embraced this serious violence ( Hall et. al, 2022 ). As I matured, I separated from both influences, but now I see the same pattern with present day teenagers that negatively affect their development and personalities. My hypothesis is that video games and rap music are directly connected to violence and negative behavior with teenagers. Research will be conducted by observing other articles that have the same demographic of teenagers and the topics of rap music, video games, violence, and behavior. Taking time to dissect these articles will give a wider range of information to reach a conclusion. I find applied research to be more useful for this problem with it being a practical problem that needs a practical solution ( Privitera, 2022 ). If there are any in person observations, it would consist of observing teens in a piratical setting. Some materials that can be used are having video games and music available for teenagers to engage in and having a test to measure their moods and their awareness to violence. I believe doing this with a group not exposed to the music and video games will be important to compare and even the teens that are tested, let them go a period without video games and rap music and see how they feel with the same test measuring moods and their awareness to violence.
