2 Case Study 1: Bob Question 1 Archetypes are the content of the collective unconscious that consist of images of the primordial character. Archetypes manifest in three universal ways which are dreams, fantasies, and delusions. There is not a certain number of archetypes mainly because they all just tend to combine with one another. Instead of numbering archetypes, there are categories for them. A couple of those categories are shadow, persona, anima, and animus. According to Jung’s theory, archetypes are contained in the personal unconscious. This level of consciousness is the feelings or thoughts from the past or future that are not present yet. What archetype has Bob been influenced by? Bob has been influenced by the persona archetype. The persona archetype has to do with a “symbolic mask” that is used to trick other people into believing that the mask carrier is playing a certain role. We can see that Bob has been influenced by this because he claims he is able to talk to the dead. It is also stated he is able to make a living that way, but he is not able to keep up with his everyday tasks. We can see this influence Bob’s behavior because he is so caught up telling people about their lives and impressing them with his work so he can make money that he is unable to clean up his house, keep track of his money and so forth. Question 2 Answer the following questions in one to two paragraphs. The two main psychological types according to Jung are extroversion and introversion. Extroversion is one that is talkative, has the need to seek external sources for their stimulation, and is generally positive. Introversion on the other hand is one that attaches their psychological energy back to themselves and turn away from the world. The type that would best describe Bob would be extroversion personality
