Name: Kyle Alexander Using Summative Assessment Results Directions: Review the PDSA Action Steps 5-8 video (also viewed in Lesson 3). Respond to each item below. Note: In the Act section of the video, Ms. Poetzel’s class discusses the results of the Earthworm Dissection Quiz, which is the summative assessment for that learning cycle. The next learning cycle will include a Crayfish dissection. 1. In the space below, record each student feedback statement that could be considered for a future instructional adjustment. Improving the smell during the dissection Doing a teacher lead tour before the next dissection Students enjoyed the lab practical portion so she should keep it Most students preferred the real dissection to a virtual one Students learned more doing the dissection themselves versus the teacher doing it and showing them Students want worksheets that correspond to the dissection and what it looks like internally Having more precise diagrams paired with live pictures Students creating their own drawings helped more 2. Which instructional strategy mentioned by the students may have had the greatest impact (positive or negative) on student achievement during this learning cycle? Based on their responses I believe that the most important instructional strategy was having the students perform the dissection and complete the practical instead of the teacher doing it for them. The students all agreed that they learned more by having to do it themselves. 3. Which piece of student feedback should Ms. Poetzel consider and utilize, as she develops her lesson plans for the Crayfish unit? I believe that as she prepares for the next unit, she should include more precise diagrams that are paired with live pictures for the
students when they are doing the dissections. This way the students will be more confident while performing the dissections and better informed when answering questions in the lab practical.
