2 Annotated Bibliography II Treatment of Personality Disorders Bateman, A., & Fonagy, P. (2016).  Mentalization-based treatment for personality disorders : a practical guide. 415-422 (First edition.). Oxford University Press. Chapter 14 of this book uses terms that are user-friendly to the novice researcher. The tone is kind and the information is explained very thoroughly. The majority of the information focuses on mentalization-based treatment (MBT) theories that address mental health issues such as interpersonal or social problems, impulsivity, and many other comorbid symptoms of borderline personality disorder. It highlights how families can be a support for people with multiple disorders and has practical information on how a support person can implement the practices of MBT. It talks about the structure of sessions, activities such as role-playing, and other exercises that may be useful. Further on in the guide it talks about how someone can integrate community- based services as well. I enjoyed reading this information and plan on digging deeper into the concepts explained in it. In all, the intended audience of this information would be families or other support individuals trying to deal with a loved one who struggles with a personality disorder or other mental health issues. I would recommend it to anyone who is seeking more information on Mentalization-based therapy for personality disorders. Comtois, K. A., Elwood, L., Holdcraft, L. C., Smith, W. R., & Simpson, T. L. (2007). Effectiveness of dialectical behavior therapy in a community mental health center. Cognitive and Behavioral Practice, 14(4), 406–414. Core Evidence. 3 This study goes into the effectiveness of Dialectal Behavior therapy also referred to as DBT. This method of therapy is an evidence-based intervention program that focuses on figuring out why suicide statistics were on the rise in people with borderline personality disorder (BPD) BPD is described as a pervasive pattern of instability in relationships, impulsive behaviors, and multiple incidents of self-inflicted injury behaviors, among other indicators. The study highlights the methods, procedures, and treatment plans of DBT. The statistics are cited well and the authors have expertise in the mental health field. The intended audience appears to be the medical community and acronyms were defined well. Some of the data and citations were dated and most of the research was done promptly. It does mention the overuse of crisis services used by people struggling with BPD. The method subjects pool was small, only having thirty-eight participants, where nine clients refused to participate and four others dropped out of the study before the one-year requirement. A large portion of the test subjects were women and the age range harvested a median age of 34. The summary and conclusion of the study was clear and the information highlighted was complete. In all this was a useful article for my research in the treatment of personality disorders. Fleming, A. P., McMahon, R. J., Moran, L. R., Peterson, A. P., & Dreessen, A. (2015). Pilot randomized controlled trial of dialectical behavior therapy group skills training for ADHD among college students. Journal of Attention Disorders , 19(3), 260–271. https://doi.org/10.1177/1087054714535951 This was another, more recent study of the effectiveness of Dialectical Behavior Therapy in a group setting specifically tailored to college students with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. (ADHD) The method used was a pool of thirty-three undergraduate students and it was acknowledged that a larger trial size was needed for more accurate statistics. The measures of the
