“Children need nurturing care to develop organized attachments to caregivers, they need synchronous care to support their physiological and behavioral regulation, and they need stable caregivers who can commit to them, supporting their sense of self and behavioral regulation” (Dozier et al., 2013, p. 167)
Consideration must be given to the attachment research’s synchrony, nurturance, care stability, and commitment aspects in foster care settings and systems. For a child to develop more healthfully, exposure to these elements of early development is essential. “Children need nurturing care to develop organized attachments to caregivers, they need synchronized care to support their physiological and behavioral regulation” (Dozier et al., 2013, p.167). Attachments can be influenced by observing affection, body language of love and nurture, and being able to demonstrate positive behaviors in various social contexts during early life-span development through our interactions with parents. When a parent or caregiver nurtures a young child, the child, in turn, will learn that parental care is necessary. Attachment is a bidirectional process that encompasses how a child reacts to their parent or caregiver's reaction and the bond that forms between the child and adult. Children with disorganized attachments differ from children with more positive attachments in appearance because they are unable to form expectations and are more likely to struggle with emotion regulation in adulthood. We establish meaningful connections through our early life attachments, thus providing us with the cognitive abilities to nurture future relationships. Early attachment style influences our attachments later in life by how the care we experience from the first stages of development determines our future relationships. In my opinion, the emotional intelligence programmatic theme is where the concept of attachment style is most relevant. The way we construct our emotions through attachment enables us to bond, learn, and regulate various emotions through our observations. References Dozier, M., Zeanah, C. H., & Bernard, K. (2013).
