SCS 100 Module Five Activity Template Replace the bracketed text below with your responses. Support your responses with specific details and examples from your advertisements. You do not need to conduct outside research, but if you use sources, cite them using APA style. Revise your research question that addresses at least one of your chosen advertisements. Based on things that I’ve learned from my research, what do I think about body image amongst all people of different races, ages and sex. Explain how social science perspectives could be used to process information. Social Science is a huge part of how researchers can get a better understanding of how our world functions. It helps to influence policies, develop different networks, increases the government's accountability, and helps promote democracy. It can help us figure out new technology that can help us in the future, focus on social advancement, humanity and the importance of our health and well being. Describe how the answer to your research question might impact others. I feel like body image is a huge thing when it comes to people nowadays. Negative body image goes hand in hand with low self esteem. It impacts some people so badly that it can have negative effects on your mental health. A lot of people with body image issues are so overwhelmed with it, they let it consume their lives and they become unstable. The impact of this makes people extremely hard on themselves believing they are less worthy of someone whose body looks better than theirs. These people could feel self conscious and are constantly negative, jealous, don’t go out much, refrain from intimacy, and cover up their body, even in the summer months. I also feel that people could be motivated by this research question as well. It’s all about where your mind is. Body image is not always considered a bad thing. When you have a positive body image you can see yourself for who you really are, you accept yourself as the way you are and don't care about what anyone else thinks, you have learned to be proud of what you look like and you try your best knowing you gave everything your all. If you were to conduct a social science study to answer your research question, who might be particularly interested in hearing about your results? Which groups of people might be most affected by your research and how might they be impacted? What branch of the social sciences might be most interested in your results? I think women between the ages of 18 and 40 would be most interested in hearing about my results. The groups of people that I think will be affected the most by my research would be younger girls and women between the ages of 10 and 20 years old. They might be impacted because the research that I’ve done on body image is extremely accurate and they might be going through some of the things that come with positive or negative body image. The branches of social science might be most interesting in my results, would be sociology and anthropology but psychology the most because having a negative body image can affect physical and mental health. 1
