Making Playdough Photo here The play episode… In previous weeks the children have been playing in the water table in the Kindergarten's room. The children like to use props such as cups, various tubes and toys. The children were using their hands to pour the water from one cup to another. However, today they decided to make playdough, they use a big bowl, scoop, spoons and recipe book. Cybil, Krishna and Layan normally play together but today was different. They were making playdough by using a recipe book. Children A said “ It is going to make a playdough”. Child B and C were mixing together by holding hands with each other. A said three times “It is going to make goopier”. Child D came eagerly towards the table and he picked up the scoop and added more flour to the container. Meanwhile child A said “ Please can you get off your hand from me” child D said “ yea”. Child C looked at the recipe book and picked up an oil bottle to add in their playdough recipe. The children A, B, C and D maintained focus throughout the playdough recipe as well as exchanging expressions of joy. Child A, B, C and D entered into the play with thoughts of confidence and actions. Child A, B and C demonstrates all sorts of knowledge and curiosity in the Cognitive Domain: 4.5 Observing- Using all senses to gather information, naming and describing the things
that they have observed while observing and focusing on the playdough recipe. They continued co- operating and interacting with each other about what they observed.Child D and C demonstrated Social domain: 1.4 helping skills - Offering assistance ,Chid D demonstrated by by picking up the scoop and adding more flour while child C demonstrated by looking at the recipe carefully and picked up the oil bottle and add it in their playdough. Child B and C demonstrated Social Domain :1.6 co- operating, by exchanging the ideas and materials during play activity. Child( B and C demonstrated this by mixing together and holding hands while child D entered in the play and picked up the scoop and added more ingredients in the container. They communicated through their body language and by sharing their ideas. My Reflection: (This reflection can be written on a separate page or included in the learning story) I discussed with my CECE about my Learning Story Assignment. After discussion, she gave me feedback about what I can include more. She explained to me such a good way that helps me a lot to learn and understand more about the children's play. She also explained what other material I can add to the children's play. I continue to inquire about what other recipes can be made with playdough and I wonder how I can use those to promote children’s engagement and learning. What are the possibilities? are currently showing a continued interest in sensory activity. We will follow their interest and encourage opportunities for children to connect in their planning and activity in this area to extend their skills in working together in this space. To further on learning, I will present an activity that provides a variety of open ended materials such as: plastic cutlery set for children, vegetables and fruit and people figures for the children to extend their imagination. For parents to extend their child’s interest in sensory activity. I will inform them about today's activity and they can encourage the children to help them in doing daily routines in their homes. For example, helping parents and participating in cooking, washing the dishes or doing laundry.
