Correlation between what I say I’d do and what I do Essay In this essay I will be explaining why people can change when under authority, how people change when in different social environments, why it is important for research to understand these personality shifts, and lastly how sin interrupts our desire to glorify God in our actions and behaviors. Why our actions and behaviors can change in different environments Everyone has a set of morals or what they believe to be right and wrong as they grow up, as Freud describes this as the Superego . A person might have a set of qualities or characteristics, or traits, but sometimes people’s actions don’t align with the traits that seem to makeup who they are. This all can be affecteds by social influence. We as people desire to be accepted and to fit in, so unconsciously we can conform to what seems to be more acceptable depending on the social setting, even if in reality it goes against what we believe or think ourselves. Another example could be obeying someone in authority. Even if someone doesn’t want to complete the task their asked to do. We see this especially in Stanley Milgram's obedience study, where a “teacher” was told by someone in authority to administer shocks to a “learner”. Within this study the “teacher” was pushed past their limits, and ultimately was shocked when they realized what they were capable of. Why it is important for research to know about traits It is important for research to know what a persons personality traits are because it gives a clearer understanding on what behaviors are most likely to happen. Knowing personality traits gives researches an idea on what to predict from that person, allowing
