Carleton University Department of Neuroscience NEUR 1203 C – W2024 Assignment 2: Neuroscience Based Media Report Due: March 1 st , 2024 The goal of this assignment is to make a media report on the subject with the purpose of explaining the neurobiological underpinnings and/or pathophysiology of the topic you choose. It can be a video, podcast, news article, or any modality that you choose! You may wish to include a description of what the technology/process is, how the technology/process works, what it is being used for, how is it being developed/researched and what neural processes are being improved upon/researched. To get started, try researching how to write a news article. They typically summarize a paper or event and include who, what, where, when and why. If you choose to use a video or audio format for this assignment, it can be a maximum of 5 minutes long (it does not have to be that long, but it cannot be any longer). Please include a separate written page for references. If you choose to do a written assignment, it can be a maximum of 2 pages (including figures and references). Whichever modality you choose must be uploaded to the Brightspace assignment box. Topics should be chosen from the list below, but if you have a specific topic in mind that is not on the list, please reach out for approval prior to beginning your assignment. Once you have chosen a topic, find one recent academic paper ( 2014/15 or later) to base your news article from. You may include other references, but the bulk of the material should relate to your chosen article. In your submission file, a link to the chosen paper must be included. Topic List Brain-computer interfaces  MDMA-assisted psychotherapy in PTSD  Psychedelic treatment in major depression disorder (MDD) or other mood disorders The use of AI technology in neuroscience What is the current understanding of consciousness  Concussions  Stroke  ALS  Chronic pain  Below you will find the marking rubric to help guide your assignment. If you have any questions, please reach out to the TAs or myself.
