Messiah Partridge FPOV Report #1 PSY 3130 Dr. Madden Feb 11, 2024 What are observer-independent and observer-dependent categories? Please explain and provide one example for each category. Observer-independent categories are those that exist ignoring the perspective of an observer. The categories aren’t related to shared belief. An example of observer-independent categories is like natural sciences like biology DNA exists outside of the human perspective (Barrett 2009). Observer-dependent categories are forms that count on perception for its validity. An example of an observer-dependent category is like social sciences like sociology because humans create these observer-independent categories for their validity (Barrett 2009). Why are these category distinctions important when considering psychology as a scientific discipline? These category distinctions are important because psychology is in the middle of social science and natural science. Understanding both observer-independent and observer-dependent categories helps clarify the two. Social constructs that are seen in the human perspective. And what is not seen in the human perspective. What did the author mean when they stated that the mind is more like a recipe book than a machine?
When the author said the mind is more like a set of recipes than like a machine the author meant the ways of the concept of mental processing. (Barrett 2009) How can psychology use physics to inform our understanding of the mind-brain correspondence problem? Psychology can use physics to notify us about the comprehension of the mind
