In Tim Urban's Ted presentation, he characterizes the procrastination system as having three fundamental components; Rational decision-maker, instant gratification monkey and the panic monster. Non-procrastinators make sensible decisions that shape their agenda or habit. Procrastination, on the other hand, happens when a person permits their need for quick pleasure to take precedence over their need for logical decision making, resulting in the completion of a simple or enjoyable job over a more difficult required one. How does the speaker suggest addressing procrastination? Urban acknowledges that not all tasks have a deadline. As a result, there is no trigger to address the overwhelming demand for immediate gratification that keeps procrastinators distracted. However, these are the instances that we should all be aware of since they have long-term consequences.
