Valencia Walker  PSYCH/650: Psychopathology Meet Your Faculty and Peers! Instructor January 4, 2024 What do you hope to learn from this class? PSYCH/650: Psychopathology: In PSYCH/650: Psychopathology, I am eager to delve into the intricacies of adult psychopathology and diagnosis, building upon the foundational work of Beidel and Frueh (2018). My primary goal is to comprehensively understand significant psychopathology categories as outlined in the latest edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM). This includes exploring diverse perspectives on mental disorders and considering cultural, biological, psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, existential, and systemic viewpoints. Ethical considerations in research and practice will also be crucial to my learning. As someone aspiring to a dual career as a clinical psychiatrist and a software engineer with plans of becoming a psychotherapist, this course will provide me with invaluable insights into the complexities of mental health, allowing me to better address the diverse needs of individuals. What strategies do you employ to be successful in your schoolwork? I implement several vital strategies honed through previous educational experiences to ensure success in my academic endeavors. Time management and organizational skills are paramount; I allocate dedicated time for readings, assignment completion, and active participation in class discussions.
Leveraging digital tools like my iPhone, M1 MacBook Pro, and Blackboard facilitates effective communication and efficient deadline management. Regularly engaging in discussion forums enables collaboration with classmates, fostering a shared learning experience. Additionally, I recognize the importance of seeking clarification when needed, utilizing resources provided by the instructor, and maintaining a proactive approach to my education. Why is your education a priority? My commitment to education is unwavering, driven by the ambition to excel in my future roles as a psychologist, clinical psychiatrist, and software engineer. A solid foundation in psychopathology and related fields is essential for achieving excellence in these professions. Education equips me with the necessary knowledge and skills, broadens my perspectives, and enhances critical thinking. It forms the cornerstone of my aspirations, providing a pathway to contribute meaningfully to the mental health and technology sectors. By prioritizing my education, I aim to continuously grow, adapt, and make a positive impact in my chosen fields. References
