PSY 2100 FALL 2023 Final Project: Step 3 Univariate Descriptive Statistics and Decisions about Inferential Tests Due: Fri. Nov. 17 Total points: 5 The goal of this assignment is to use descriptive statistics to look at your data and to make a plan for the data analysis procedures that you will conduct on the data set. Part 1: Univariate Descriptive Statistics (3 points) First, summarize the origins of the data set. Define the cases (i.e. What is the unit of observation that makes the rows in the data file?). Second, describe separately each of the variables that will be used in this project. The minimum number of variables is three, which is required for the multivariate hypothesis. Make a histogram of the data for each variable separately . If the variable is on a ratio or interval scale, report the mean and standard deviation. Describe the shape of the distribution by looking at the histogram and deciding how it looks in terms of skew. If the variable is nominal or ordinal, report the mode and variation ratio (see Lecture Week 3 for a definition of variation ratio). Part 2: Hypotheses Restate the bivariate and multivariate hypotheses from Final Project Step 1. If you revised your hypotheses (or changed your data file) after you submitted Step 1, please state the revised hypotheses. Part 3: Decisions about Inferential Tests (2 points) For this part, make a plan for the inferential statistics that you will want to conduct. NOTE: Do not conduct any analyses yet! Use the feedback from this assignment to guide your decisions about data analysis that you will report in the final report (Step 4). a) For the bivariate hypotheses: i) Choose an inferential statistical test that addresses the hypotheses. Justify your choice considering the attributes of the variables and the conditions of the statistic. ii) Discuss the assumptions of the statistic (if any) with respect to your data set. b) For the multivariate hypotheses: i) Choose an inferential statistical test that addresses the hypotheses. Justify your choice considering the attributes of the variables and the conditions of the statistic. IMPORTANT: For the multivariate hypothesis, it is wise to choose either a 2-way ANOVA or multiple regression. If you would like to choose another multivariate analysis, please discuss the possibility with Dr. Seiffert or the TA. ii) Discuss the assumptions of the statistic (if any) with respect to your data set.
