Megan Davis PSY 570 5/11/2022 8-3 Journal: Outside of Work Settings Holding a person accountable for their behavior and choices outright their work environment poses legal issues due to privacy, anti-discrimination and other laws. Depending on the situation though, employers may be able to fire someone based on their behavior and choices outside their work setting, depending on the companies particular policies. Some employers may impose restrictions such as drug testing their employees or implementing strict policy that prohibits romances between colleagues. Dating a coworker or someone you work for can have a negative impact on the work environment. Two people who work together involved in a relationship may be distracting for the two people involved in the relationship, as well as their coworkers, especially if the couple fights it could create an awkward or tense environment for everyone involved. People may take sides and if the relationship is between bosses and subordinates it may bring preferential treatment from the supervisor as well as resentment from the other employees whether it is factual or imagined. People represent the jobs they have, inside and outside of work, so if a company imposed policies that do not allow certain behaviors outside of work, psychologists must adhere to the policies. Depending on the work environment, certain behaviors may or may not impact one’s career. People have a right to do act but if their choices or behaviors outside of work are having an impact on their career then they are responsible for making the right choices both inside and outside of their work environment.
