Reply to 2 other posts Societal changes have led to a change in the nature of initiation rites associated with transition into adulthood. Are young adults better off today as a result of the changes?  What are some initiation rites that you experienced and did they help or hinder your transition into adulthood?  If you do not wish to share a personal experience, identify a rite of passage and discuss its impact on the transition into adulthood.  Hello all, I believe that as a result of societal changes, initiation rites connected to the passage into adulthood have changed, benefiting some people more than others. While some of these societal changes have made the transition to adulthood simpler, others have also made it more challenging. Some people are better equipped to handle the transition into adulthood because they have a greater understanding of who they are and want to be, as well as their cultural and personal values and beliefs. Some people find it more difficult to make the transition from childhood to adulthood because they lack certain customary initiation rites or experiences. This might cause young adults to feel as though they are falling behind their classmates and result in a lack of awareness of the values and beliefs of their group or culture. The lack of supervision or assistance that they could have gotten in a more traditional setting might also cause young adults to feel unprepared for the obstacles they would face as adults. Most of the initiation rites I went through when I entered adulthood were experience-based. Two weeks following high school graduation, I shipped off to Army basic training. An incredibly challenging crash course in adulthood was given to me. I was able to make wise judgments about my future and obtain a greater grasp of what it takes to be a responsible adult through these experiences. These initiation rites, in my opinion, really facilitated my journey into adulthood. They gave me the knowledge as well as skills I needed to make intelligent decisions about my
life. Because these initiation rites were experience-based, I gained the self-assurance and resources I needed to pursue my objectives and take charge of my future. Living alone is a rite of passage that, in my opinion, may have a big impact on a person as they enter adulthood. Living alone requires the acquisition of abilities necessary for future decision- making. These abilities—finance and budgeting, time management, commitment, and organization—can be quite helpful to someone making the transition to adulthood. Because these abilities require individuals to take on tasks and responsibilities to continue living independently, they can instill a sense of responsibility in them. -Chrys References Best, D.
