SCREENINGS Purpose: Screening is the initial process used to identify students who may be at risk for academic, behavioral, or developmental difficulties. It is a universal and brief assessment to determine if further evaluation is warranted. Scope: Screening is typically applied to all students in a school or grade level, without singling out specific individuals. It is a broad-level assessment. Child Study Team Involvement : Child study teams may not always be directly involved in screening, as it is often conducted at the school or district level by general education teachers, counselors, or specialists. Outcome: The primary outcome of screening is to identify students who need further assessment or support. It doesn't result in special education classification or services but can trigger pre-referral processes. 4
