Formative Assessment Developmental assessments are used to check progress toward goals. Developmental assessment during learning is becoming increasingly common. Summative Assessment Summative appraisal is utilized to degree the learning accomplished amid a unit or lesson (Derrell, 2015). These appraisals are done at the conclusion of a unit or lesson. Summative evaluations are conducted to see what students have learned and to decide in the event that a unit or objective must be retaught. How Its Used During Instruction. Developmental assessments can be used as evaluations of individuals who are learning. It can take the form of basic questions about what happened and what the outcome was. They may work in small groups and be peer-audited during the exercise. Use summative assessment at the end of a unit to see what students have learned and what they will be able to do in the context of a test, written presentation, or introduction.
