BIBL 104 Name: Brian Cortez B IBLE S TUDY P ROJECT : C ORRELATION T EMPLATE Passage: Acts 19:11-22 A. How does this passage from Acts fit within the metanarrative of the Bible? State what type of story you believe this to be (creation, fall, redemption, or new creation) and explain why you believe this to be so? Your explanation should be 1 paragraph (150-300 words) in length. It may be good to review chapter 6 in Everyday Bible Study to recall what each of these four themes are about. The passage from Acts 19:11-22 fits within the meta narrative of the Bible as part of the unfolding story of God's redemptive work through Jesus Christ and the establishment of His Church. As our course textbook explains, “during the period of history that the book of Acts covered, several of the New Testament epistles were also written (eleven, to be exact: James, Galatians, 1 and 2 Thessalonians, 1 and 2 Corinthians, Romans, Ephesians, Philippians, Colos- sians, and Philemon). That is over 40 percent of the New Testament” (Everyday Bible Study, Chapter 6 Pg.225). There is no doubt that this time period was a time of growth and expansion of the church. As Paul went out on his missionary trips and performed miracles, empowered by the Holy Spirit, the victory of God’s power over evil was demonstrated as was seen in Ephesus. The confrontation between the demon and the sons of Sceva illustrates the supremacy of Jesus' name and authenticates the true apostleship of Paul. This passage can be seen as a new creation story because it portrays a shift where the power of the Gospel begins to dismantle deeply rooted pagan practices and spiritual darkness. The public’s renunciation of sorcery and the burning of scrolls symbolized the community's movement from old, sinful ways to a new life in Christ. This story is truly indicative of the fact that through the power of the Holy Spirit, God is continually renewing and restoring His creation, transforming lives and societies through His message. B. How does your theological principle from Acts 19:11-22 fit with the rest of the Scripture? This principle is the one you have written out in 1-3 sentences in the Interpretation Assignment. If your theological principle is a true Biblical principle, it will be reflected throughout the Scriptures. Where is the theological principle discovered in this New Testament narrative found elsewhere in the Scriptures? Your explanation should be 1 paragraph (150-300 words) in length. Be specific. Give, explain, and cite your supporting passage(s) from Scripture. Page 1 of 2
