Biblical Worldview: Initial Assignment
Write a 100-word paragraph response to each of the following questions. For each question, support your views with Scripture. What is the basis for reality? Does God exist?
The basis for reality can be different for different people and their mindsets or what they believe to be their perspective truth however, the definition for the basis for reality is defined by Merriam-Webster as “something that is neither derivative not dependent but exists necessarily”(Merriam-Webster, 2024). That definition of reality depends on the mind and perception of the individual but most commonly someone’s reality is what they can see or touch. God is a very controversial topic for some people because He isn’t something or someone that people can “see” or “touch” in the physical sense. For me God exists and the scripture that I love that backs that up for me is in Romans 1:19, “Because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them”(NKJV). My reality is that God exists, not because I can physically see him or feel him but because I feel him spiritually and see
his hand in my life in intangible ways. God has shown himself to me and my faith knows he exists.
What is the basis for truth?
Again, truth can be perspective truth but the definition for truth according to Merriam-Webster is “the body of real things, events, and facts”(Merriam-Webster, 2024). Even though the definition of truth states that it is a real thing, event or fact, somebody can still speak
the truth that is truth to them even if it is not a fact. You can state a truth that you believe to be true but that does not mean it is a fact. There is a saying that says, there are 3 sides to every story, one person’s version, the second persons version and the truth. This happened several times throughout the bible, and nobody was wrong, it was just their version or their truth. Jesus gave many sermons and each person that heard those sermons took away their perspective truths and heard what helped them but may not have heard it all.
However, God knows our hearts and if we continue to walk in the way we feel he has guided us to go then we are living our truth. A scripture that supports this is in John 8:32, “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (NKJV). This scripture is
saying that if you continue in my work then you are doing right by me. What values should anchor life decisions?
The values that should anchor life decisions in my opinion are the commandments and the words we learn from God in scripture. We learn so many values and life lessons within scriptures and the parables contained within. God has shown us the way and given us the beautiful blessing of the Bible and more importantly spiritual promptings and the power of prayer. God has given us the tools to help us guide ourselves and others through life. We need to listen and obey and immolated Jesus attributes and we will find the way home.
