Kendra, I found your interpretation of the kingdoms in Merida's Christ-Centered Exposition to be really engaging and thought-provoking. Highlighting David's journey, as portrayed in the Bible, demonstrates his steadfast belief and profound connection with God. As it states in the Bible, create in me a pure heart,   O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me” ( New International Version Bible, 1978/2011, Psalm 51:10). However, it's crucial to recognize that David, despite being a man of great faith, had his own shortcomings. His affair with Bathsheba and the subsequent consequences reveals the complexity of human nature, emphasizing the biblical notion that even the most revered figures are flawed. Leaders are often expected to be honest, to operate with integrity, and to display trust (Manning et al. 2022). In addition to David, his son Solomon left an enduring impact as well. As it is stated in the Bible, “God’s grace offers favor, and God’s grace provides strength and builds resilience—are discussed. The findings indicate that while grace is bountiful through faith, it can also be found in unexpected places within faith settings and the wider community” ( Hyde et. 2022) Nevertheless, his later years saw a departure from his father's devotion, leading to consequences for the nation. Solomon's reign marked a significant shift in the nation's trajectory, as his pursuit of wealth and alliances with foreign nations compromised the spiritual integrity of Israel. Despite his initial wisdom, Solomon's choices ultimately led to division and strife within the kingdom, highlighting the importance of staying faithful to God's commands. Despite the fact that David and Solomon, along with all of the other kings that are featured in Merida's Christ-Centered Exposition , are known for their significance, the ultimate true king emerges in the form of Jesus. As it states in Proverbs 3:5-6, “trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight” ( New International Verse Bible 1978/2011). Both his life and his teachings, as well as the sacrifice he made, are examples of virtue. Believing individuals discover redemption and the personification of divine reign in the incarnation of Jesus, who is considered the fulfillment of ancient prophecies and the embodiment of God's love and mercy. Jesus' birth, ministry, death, and resurrection serve as a testament to his role as the ultimate king, bringing salvation and eternal life to all who believe in him. Hyde, B., & Joseph, D. The NIV Bible. https://www.thenivbible.com/ (Original work published 1978) Paul, your examination of Merida's Christ-Centered Exposition is commendable, and I applaud your choice of Hezekiah as the King's interpretation. Hezekiah, gained respect for his faith in God, which was evident in his moral rectitude, humility, empowerment, visionary leadership,
and inspiration. Hezekiah was also known for his ability to inspire confidence in others. His leadership approach is consistent with contemporary ideas of servant and transformational leadership, which demonstrates his dedication to following God's instructions. His unwavering faith in God is the defining characteristic of his leadership, which is accomplished while maintaining a humble attitude. An example of his humility can be found in Second Chronicles 32:26,"Hezekiah repented the pride of his heart, as did the people of Jerusalem; therefore, the Lord’s wrath did not come on them during the days of Hezekiah” ( New International Version Bible, 1978/2011). Ironically, my top two choices for this assignment were Hezekiah and Asa, and prior to this discussion post, I had gone through a significant amount of reading and research on Hezekiah. According to (Wolfteich et al., 2021), classical texts in Christian spirituality clearly emphasize the importance of humility and contain numerous points of guidance about how to cultivate humility. It was Hezekiah's efforts to rid the kingdom of idol worship and restore the true worship of God that particularly drew my attention to him. His ability to be morally upright was manifested in his actions. His subjects were held to a very high standard, and he made it a point to actively seek to clean up the land and lead by example. Strategic planning and preparedness for challenges, such as securing Jerusalem against enemy invasions, showed Hezekiah's visionary leadership. Hezekiah was a renowned and influential leader due to these attributes and his unshakeable faith. Hezekiah's reign showcases exemplary trust in God, humility, and effective leadership. Hezekiah was humble, repenting and asking God's pardon despite his achievements. According to (Upenieks et al., 2022), Christian scriptures, for instance, explicitly teach that humility is an essential part of God’s character expressed through Jesus, and that Christians should relate to each other in a humble way. Your choice, Paul, reflects wisdom in selecting a leader whose actions align with biblical principles. REFERENCES New International Bible. (2011).
