One notable element according to Anderson (2023, p80), discusses the fairness of sacrifice, notably in the life and atonement of our precious savior, Jesus. He goes on to say Jesus suffered for sins he did not commit (Anderson,
2023). There is not really another way to raise the bar on the ultimate injustice of Jesus dying for sins he never committed. This was an excellent reminder of the way we must walk with humility and mercy. Working with a marginalized population is an opportunity to sacrifice and show love and mercy to those who are in need. James 2:17
(New International Version),
says
17
In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. And James 1 John 4:16b
(NIV),
God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. Faith without works is dead. Our love for God should compel us to overcome any obstacle to share that love with others.
One way we can do this is by building alliances between our local churches and community organizations. In this study, some churches raised awareness and provided resources and education to people struggling with issues of sexuality. According to Mosley et al., (2022), this study illuminates the importance of the alliance between religious/faith-based and public health professionals to approach the intersectional structure with cultural humility.
Another element that struck me was in the example of the wedding feast. Anderson (2023, p81-82), Luke 14:21
(NIV)
, Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind and the lame.’ The needy would surely appreciate it more and be more devoted in their hearts. God wants to lift up his beloved creation and we must follow his example. The final element was Anderson (2023), when we cling to division we agree with the kingdom of darkness. Our job is to love others. This is how they will know we are from God. To love others we must get to know them and their needs. According to Huić and Matković (2020), because of the study care providers felt more capable of working with the LGBT community and their knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors had significantly changed. Education is crucial to understanding the needs of the LGBT community and how to serve, ally, and advocate for them best.
