1 Main Theme of the Bible, how it compares to your view and how it will help you apply scripture to course work Teresa Diaz Colorado Christian University INT-212A-25014-FA23-Adult Studies Seminar 2 Dan Denk October 29, 2023
2 1.According to Bickel and Jantz (2003), what is the main theme of the Bible? (Provide cited support from your text for this theme.) As you read the book getting to know God 101 you will see it mentioned several times that the Bible is Gods message to us, so one might assume that is the main theme, but as you read and look closer it is obvious that they feel, state, and it is fact that Jesus is the main theme of the Bible. Bickle and Jank write:” Their only hope was the promised Messiah.” (Bickle & Jantz 1952/1998 ch.3) “they also write under mini summery of Gods book that; “God is the author we are the characters and Jesus is the main Theme” (Bickle & Jantz 1952/1998 ch3). ‘Their only hope was the promised Messiah” (Bickle & Jantz 1952/1998 ch3). As you can see the theme is Jesus. 2.How does this theme compare to your current view or understanding of the Bible? I, too, see Gods word as a message to us in the Old Testament as I read through it, I see a theme of a coming savior in the books i have read, while reading through the New Testament I have seen that in every book Jesus was the main theme, so I would have to say that it deepens my belief and understanding of the Bible and its main theme, message. 3. How can understanding the big picture of the Bible help you as you seek to apply Scripture to course content? For me as I think about this question, it makes me think about what Christ did for us, as it says in the Bible Perspective this session “He died in the place of all humans, before God, as our sacrifice for our sin” (Session 3 Biblical Perspective 2023). I am working toward a degree in
3 Biblical studies to learn and get closer to God I plan on using that to help others in their pursuit and understanding of the Lord, Jesus did not only die on the Cross for our conversion but that we could serve love and sacrifice for other, (Session 3 Biblical Perspective 2023) . I feel I can apply these three things as I continue through school by showing Love and helping other in class as they pursue there degrees along with that I can sacrifice some of my the things I would normally do in my free time by replacing those things with my school work ( not sure how much of a sacrifice that will really be to me as I love learning). The bible states in the verse from Daniel 2:21; “ He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding;”{Holy Bible English Standard Version 2001/2016) in the verse from Proverbs 2:6; “ For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth comes knowledge and understanding;”(Holy Bible English Standard Version 2001/2016) in the verse from Psalm 119:66; “Teach me good judgment and knowledge, for I believe in your commandments”. (Holy Bible English Standard Version 2001/2016) These verses say to me that if we combined Gods words with our studies looking to and asking him for guidances understanding and knowledge that he will give it to us guiding and helping us as we continue to pursue our degrees. The Bible shows us that God loves us and helps those who seek him that in everything he will work it out for the good, I believe that knowing that Gods love for us is a huge part of the big picture and remember this will help us in all that we do. It states in Romans 8:28;” And we know that for those who love God all things work together form good, for those who are called according to his purpose”(Holy Bible English Standard Version 2001/2016) In conclusion knowing the big picture of the Bible shows us that God wants what is best for us and to take that and apply his words to us in our course work will keep us focused confident and successful.
