Student Name: How Might Religion Appear in Popular Culture? I. Paragraph #1: Religion does not only appear in churches, temples, mosques, and synagogues, but it also appears in popular culture. A. This is important because it allows for the connection to be expressed between both religion and popular culture. B. Religion has always been represented and encountered through forms of culture, its appearance in popular culture can be seen a strength. II. Movies may represent religion in popular culture, as they have received more attention from religion researchers than any other part of popular culture. A. For example, “In addition, many movies include explicit representations of religion or religious figures, although they may not be the focus of the films: priests, monks and nuns, rabbis, evangelists, sun dancers, gothic cathedrals, Muslim prayer rugs, exorcisms, and so on .” (Forbes, 2017, p.12). B. This means that numerous movies have explicit depictions of religious individuals or religion. III. A connection between religion and culture is often visible. A. For example, “Common sense tells us that the popularity of any given cultural text, whether it be music or television or sport, is dependent upon an integrated relationship between producers and consumers.” (Mukerji and Schudson, 1991, p. 12 ) B. This implies that analyzing the situation is how we constantly learn. similar to how we may analyze television consumers to learn about television producers IV. Churches, temples, mosques, and synagogues aren't the only places where religion can be found. It may also be found in popular culture. The presence of religion in popular culture might be considered a positive because religion has always been expressed and encountered through cultural forms. Works Cited
