2 Biblical Christianity Versus Secular Humanism Question of Origin In the Biblical worldview, the universe and humanity originate in God’s deliberate and divine act of creation, as depicted in Genesis 1 (NIV, 2011). This viewpoint unequivocally states that God, the Creator, meticulously shaped the world, distinguished light from darkness, and breathed life into humanity. Conversely, Secular Humanism embraces a naturalistic stance, proposing that the universe and life emerged through the Big Bang, chemical evolution, and biological evolution. Secular humanists assert the acknowledgment of nature as inherently self- existing while firmly rejecting any supernatural elements. According to Daniella (2020), they passionately embrace the motto "Good without God," encapsulating their core belief that goodness and morality can be achieved independently of divine influence. While the Christian perspective emphasizes divine intent and creation, Secular Humanism relies on natural processes and rejects the idea of a supernatural creator. Question of Identity The Christian stance firmly anchors human identity in the belief that individuals are created in the image of God, underlining moral responsibility, creative potential, and stewardship over the natural world. Genesis 1:27-28 is the biblical basis for this view, signifying the divine connection that sets humanity apart (NIV, 2011). In contrast, Secular Humanism perceives humans as the products of evolution, perceiving humanity as a mere byproduct of natural selection (Weider & Gutierrez, 2013). This perspective negates inherent meaning or distinctiveness, fostering an individualistic approach that lacks reliance on a supernatural being.
3 Question of Purpose The Christian worldview underscores that human purpose is deeply intertwined with the glorification of God and nurturing a loving relationship with Him, as found in passages like 1 Corinthians 10:31 (NIV, 2011). The ultimate significance of human existence lies in the alignment of one's life with the divine will of God and active engagement in His redemptive plan. In stark contrast, Secular Humanism firmly maintains that human purpose is grounded in the here and now, emphasizing individual desires, pleasure, and self-determination (Baucham, 2009). It completely dismisses the idea of an eternal perspective, asserting that meaning and purpose are inherently self-determined. Question of Morality In the Christian Biblical perspective, morality finds its firm footing in God's revealed standards, predominantly found in the Bible. The Ten Commandments ((Exodus 20:1-17) and the teachings of Jesus (Matthew 5-7) lay the ethical groundwork, highlighting virtues such as love, justice, and compassion (NIV, 2011). This moral foundation is unwavering and firmly rooted in the very essence of God's nature and His divine intentions. Conversely, Secular Humanism posits that morality is a subjective construct emerging from human interests, cultural values, and societal norms, consequently rendering it subject to moral relativism. The perception of what is morally right or wrong is subject to variation based on individual viewpoints, cultural milieus, and societal standards, all with the overarching goal of fostering global well-being and harmony (Powell, 2006). Question of Destiny In the Christian perspective, the destiny of individuals upon death closely hinges on their faith in Christ and their relationship with God. God promises eternal life to those who trust in

4 Christ, while those who reject God's salvation potentially face spiritual separation. This view, supported by verses like John 3:16 and Matthew 25:46, emphasizes the significance of one's earthly choices and the transformative power of faith (NIV, 2011). In contrast, Secular Humanism rejects the idea of an afterlife, believing that death marks the definitive end of existence. As per Weider and Gutierrez (2013), this worldview encourages focusing on the present moment and making a lasting impact on Earth, emphasizing the material world as the entirety of existence.
