READ: MATTHEW 25-28 JOURNAL OF TODAY’S READING (5 points possible) Give a brief summary of today’s reading (1-3 sentences for each chapter). Chapter 25 Jesus shows us that true faith doesn't stay locked within the walls of a church building. It reaches out to people who are hurting and facing injustice — and it cares for children, who are the most vulnerable of all. Chapter 26 Jesus ate the Passover meal with His disciples, at which time He said that one of them would betray Him. He instituted the sacrament and then suffered in Gethsemane. Jesus was betrayed by Judas, arrested, and taken to stand trial before Caiaphas, where He was falsely accused and abused. Peter denied Jesus three times. Chapter 27 After betraying Jesus Christ, Judas Iscariot hung himself. Pilate questioned Jesus, released Barabbas, and sentenced Jesus Christ to be crucified. In fulfillment of prophecy, Jesus was scourged, mocked, crucified, and buried in the tomb of the wealthy Joseph of Arimathea. Chapter 28 The angel shows them Jesus' empty tomb and tells them Jesus, the one who was crucified, is risen. He gives them a specific message to take back to the disciples to tell them Jesus is raised from the dead and that He is going before them to Galilee.
Which chapter or passage made the biggest impression on you and why? Chapter 26 because that is when he reveals to the disciples what was going to happen and sadly you see everything and how it was unraveling. TOPIC FOCUS (5 points possible) TOPICS TO LOOK FOR: Changes in different phases of Jesus' ministry: Up to verse 4:17, after 4:17 up to 16:21, and after 16:21. Quotations of the OT and especially Matthew's notes on fulfilled prophecy. References to Jesus as "king of the Jews," to His kingdom, and to His authority as king. References to Jesus as the "Son of David." Other Jewish aspects of this Gospel - references to the Law, for example. Indications of the universal (Gentile) nature of the gospel. Select one topic above and search for the topic while reading your assigned passage today. Copy and paste the topic you selected here into the box: Copy and paste or type the Bible verse or verses that address your topic focus here: Briefly explain the significance of the topic you chose and how the Bible verse you selected supports that topic: PROVIDENCE
