Session 2 Journal Entry Holly Ray BIB-102A New Testament Introduction Colorado Christian University Professor Benjamin Siegler December 3, 2023
Session 2 Journal Entry John 20:31 “But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” ( New International Version , 1973/2018). The book of John has always been a treasure to me, and I find that the most convincing evidence of the Gospel accounts comes from the Gospel of John. The verse John 20:31 states the purpose of the gospel. Thousands upon thousands of people came to believe in Jesus by hearing of the signs and miracles, and by listening to His teachings. They heard of these signs in a day and age when there was no internet or any other way of communicating this, but by foot and word of mouth. The seven signs recorded in John are convincing, as they are all things that cannot be done by a human. Other than the resurrection of Christ Himself, I believe that the strongest evidence of Who Jesus is, is the account of Him raising Lazarus from the dead in John chapter 11. Nobody thought anything good was to come of this, because Jesus did not come the moment that He was called for, to keep Lazarus from dying. In John 11:43 “Jesus called in a loud voice “Lazarus, come out!” and this dead man came out alive. I do not believe that there is a need for any more evidence, pointing to Christ being the Messiah. His death, burial and resurrection are enough, but all the signs leading up to that, point to Him being the Son of God. The impact of the Gospels on my life is tremendous. I am a walking testimony that Christ came, and still comes for the lost, bringing me to life from a spiritual death that was leading to a physical death! I was healed, just like in these accounts.
