1 Nephi 1-7: Option One 1 Nephi 1:1 “Highly Favored” vs. “Many Afflictions” Remember your total response should be 150 to 300 words. In 1 Nephi 1:1, Nephi states that he was “highly favored of the Lord,” had “seen many afflictions,” and “had a great knowledge of the goodness and the mysteries of God.” 1. Write a paragraph in the box below explaining how these three statements relate to each other. These three statements are related to one another in the sense that his eyes have been opened to the Lord's goodness, mercy, and His hand int their lives. Because of the many afflictions that Nephi and his family have endured, they have also been able to see the Lord's hands during those trying times. They have been highly favored of the Lord because their eyes are open and they have been able to discover the mysteries of God. They've had their eyes opened and realize their true dependance on the Lord and realize that He is the only one who can truly provide for their needs physically, spiritually, emotionally and mentally. 2. How do 2 Nephi 2:2, Doctrine and Covenants 90:24, and 122:7–8 relate to what you wrote in your paragraph above? These three scriptures provided relate to 1 Nephi 1:1 because Nephi truly sought to know for himself to know if God was preparing them and helping them along their journey. Lehi's largest desire was for his family to know the goodness of God and that God's plan is present in every aspect of their lives. However, searching for that goodness and knowledge requires work and effort on our part. It requires that we search and study and come to know for ourselves how God's hand is present daily in our lives. REL 121Book of Mormon
