John 1 Overture
God spoke the word into existence
Our relational God was existence in three eternal persons.
A relational God means you can relate to him. Life was with him. The Eternal God Move into the mess of this World. God who made the World enters and take on
the suffering of this world.
He endures hardship, so he might redeem us from struggles. Jesus came into the world full of grace and truth. We discover the character of the triune God.
What is the gospel that saves that transforms and that is entrusted to us to proclaim?
The Gospel saves and transform. We get more by doing more and transforming
What is the gospel?
How do we bear witness to the gospel?
how do we become the kind of people who bear witness to the gospel that saves us that transforms us and…
The Christian life is our christiian witness. Evangelism is the explicit communication of this.
4 key terms
Discipleship
Spiritual formation
Witness
Evangelism
Acts 22- the last time you find the evangelism of discipleship.
The rabbi and his disciple doesn’t translate much.
Disciple- with the rabbi for the purpose of becoming like the rabbi. I want to hate the things he hate and love the things he love. The whole point of discipleship is to take on the role of the rabbi. Jesus says take my yoke upon you….we should live a life of intimacy.
Su morpho means to transform
Gal 4:19= pains of child birth until Christ is form in you
2 corint 3:18
Metamorpho being transform into the image of Jesus by the holyspirit
S.F 1
Witness- we use our lives and words to point people to the truth we’ve encountered in Jesus. Do our lives, our words points to jesus. Our embodied witness personally and collectively.
Evangelism- the gospel, the good news of Jesus. Its always necessary to use words, to hear the words of the gospel, to see what Jesus has done. My hope, desire, expectation is to share the gospel.
Evangelism- is the explicit communication. its not what your preferred social media platform is or political party, it is trying to disciple you. Your preferred political party or social media is not discipling you the way Jesus did. Fear and anger, sex sells don’t be caught up with these. 1
st
peter 3:13 don’t be afraid. In your heart fear Christ. Set aside Christ as Lord.
What is the Gospel? it is shaped by two stories:
1.
The story we live
2.
The story we live into
The biblical way is to tell a story and invite us to live into this. This is what it looks like to be human in this God made and God ruled world. This ois what is involved in becoming a mature Christian from a book “eat this”

Wine is a symbol of joy
Amos 9;11
What is it that Jesus made the wine in. the media is the message.
A symbol of inclusion and exclusion, water into a super abundance wine. He provide for the people in a way that they could not do for themselves. God is who he says he is. He begins a new creation.
Evangelism is more talk of a monologue than a dialogue.
The power of asking questions
Dallas evangelism fellowship
Rev 21 and 22
What we see at the end of the biblical story precedes everything before it. Isa 65:17-19
Why would Jerusalem made new? Allow Gods story to have integrity of its own. How did God set up things to operate? Is that what the story trying to do. Every human being live into some story. The bible doesn’t answer every question we have. But there are some things the bible distinctively answers. The heart of what jesus is using is becoming like him. We were called to live life on a mission.
Why is Jerusalem is a big deal? Because this is the dwelling place of God. Rev 21: 1-5 My husband is walking on the giant Gold cube. There is only 1 kings 6:20 the other place where the bible talks about measurement. Three times God uses the word with, he will be with his people.

Revelation 21:1-5
John 2:13
Passover:
Jerusalem is the dream of God for a world set right. zech 14:9 zech talks about when God will be king all over the earth
Psalm 10:16, “The Lord is king forever” in the new earth
The throne of God is here.
Three themes:
God’s Personal presence
God’s just reign
God’s perfect peace
Find some foundation to build your knowledge on. When you understand the end it changes how you think about the now. Paul says death is an enemy. Some times it is good not to watch our loved ones suffer, but just to let them go. Never called a friend what God calls an enemy. Death is the result of sin. It is the violation of shalom. Give us hope in the midst of suffering.
How to tell the big biblical story?
Start with injustice in the world, suffering, a broken world. If there is a God that means his ways are higher than our ways. We have failed to live up to his standards. The Israelites were troubled by Idolatry and injustice.
Gods desire for justice is setting things right. Righteousness is setting things right collectively, socially.
Questions for the professor?
You are saying to look at the big story right?
“When you die you go to heaven” your saying not to start this way right?
But there are different ways in sharing the gospel right.
Genesis 1
Great stories have great open lines. In the beginning as an example. When we flip through the bible we see us through the stories, but the stories are about God. He is to be glorified. God creates a world to love and to demonstrate that love, to return that love. What God made on day one he fills on day 2. There is only one God who is sovereign over every thing.

The quest to be like God: Imaging his glory and holiness in ruling the earth part 2
Chapter 1
The only difference with other religion on us is that Christ became flesh and dwell among us.
In those days they held older people In high ranking. Eg Nicodemus teacher, a member of the sandrehim
Three themes from the end of the story
The
There is a rhythm in genesis 1. “And God said… what God forms he fills. God says his world that he forms is good. The idea of the king was that the king was made in the image of God. Both male and female was made in the image of God. This is the beginning of biblical ethics. No other
ancient story affirms that. Image of God begins with the dignity of every human being. God
wants us to rule and subdue. God’s creation is good and one day he will made it even better. Sin has tainted it. Righteousness is set right, it is justice

The failure of the quest: Humanity in Adam part 1, jones chapter 2
John 4
Jesus loves people and treat them with dignities. He honors their dignity. the jews would not even look at a woman in public. womans were sometimes dehumanize. a message to men, women are our sisters. lets be as jesus as how he encounters our sisters in christ. she is longing for sense of secuirty, of being somebody, of having somebody. she looked to one man after the other. water is a symbol of the holyspirit throughout the boook of John. there is no one beyond the reach of God’s grace. the samaritan woman wanted to be invisible and yet she went into town and told everybody come and see a man who told me everything i did. Jesus crosses so many boundaries that even his followers were surprised at him. we should do the same. we are giving the promise of living water. help us to live grounded in our identity with yo

God is the bauy behind everything that is good. God speaks and creation comes into existence. on the 7th day he step back and watch his creation flourished. rev 21;5 Shalam comes in the renew of things. revelation 1and 2 and gen 1 and 2

he body is a wonderful master piece of God. Part of what it means to be human is to
have a body. in the biblical story body matters. the great hope is one day our souls will be united with our glorious body in resurrection. God breathe life into man and he became a living soul. The way I which the garden is described is a glimpse of what we are going to see in the temple. The garden is understood as a place of sanctuary

Genesis 3: 1
Shame tells us lies about things that are true. When sin and shame entered we try to see how to
fix things. Shame goes deeper. Sometimes we can see people in our lives that run away from shame. Jer 2:13. Two sins my people have forgotten. 1. People forgot that jesus is the fountain of living water. 2. Try to satiate their thirst out of their resources. What happened in the garden makes everything undrstandavle. We sin and we feel shame, then we hide and blam. God hates your sin because he loves you. Sin is the vandalism of shalom. The world is not the way its supposed to be. Humanity is not the way it supposed to be. All of us experience the vandalism
of shalom. We experience the the vandalism of shalom because of our own sin and foolish choices. We’ve done this to ourselves. Sin is always a sabotage. We experience the vandalism of aescapshalom because of the sin of others. All of us has experienced the vandalism of shalom. And also living our lives in a fallen world.

The Failure of the quest
Humanity in Part 2
Jesus ask an odd question do you want to be healed. But Jesus knows the man’s life would change. The people were more concerned with rule keeping and more people keeper that Jesus desire for us. Jesus wants to know are you prepared for all the ways your life would change. Do you want to get well.
The personal presence of a holy God with corrupt people in a defiled creation became deeply problematic
The just reign of God was usurped by the act of cosmic treason by His stewards.
The perfect peace of God was vandalized by sin, death, and the devil.
Satan tempted Jesus by showing him the things of this world. The dignity we were meant to enjoy has been subjected to domination and exploitataion
The intimacy we were meant to enjoy has been subjected to deep ambivalence because of shame.
The purpose we were meant to live out has been subjected to futility and frustration
The bodies that are integral to our humanity have been subjected to decay and death
The whole creation, so full of God’s glory, has been subjected to corruption and abuse.
The God of Israel is grieve by sin. Idolatry and sin wre etwo sin popular in the old testament.
