God knows when we sit and when we rise, perceives our thoughts from afar, discerns our actions, and even knows our words before we speak them (New International Version, 1973). This deep and comprehensive knowledge underscores the personal relationship that God has with each individual. As a mother and a college student, you can appreciate the importance of understanding each child's unique characteristics and needs. God's example here encourages us to strive for a similar level of awareness and understanding of our students. Moreover, Psalm 139 underscores the divine nature of human creation. It proclaims that God "created my inmost being" and "knit me together in my mother's womb" (New International Version, 1973). This declaration speaks to the inherent value and purpose in every person's life. As a mother and a student, I understand the significance of nurturing and guiding my child's development. In a teaching context, recognizing the sacredness of each student's journey can guide me to foster an environment that respects and celebrates their individuality. Additionally, the psalm praises the idea that God's thoughts toward us are precious and vast, more numerous than the grains of sand (New International Version,
1973). This highlights the depth of God's love and concern for His children. This profound love should serve as an inspiration for how we approach our students. It calls us to foster an environment of care, support, and encouragement in our role as educators. The passage also addresses the concept of self-perception, which has a significant impact on motivation and achievement. It is interesting to note that the psalm emphasizes the importance of self-awareness and self-examination when the psalmist says, "Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting" (New International Version, 1973). This self-reflection encourages me to acknowledge our own limitations and strive for growth.
